Heart of the Schools

Proudly hosted by the Fund for Educational Excellence, the Heart of the Schools is a collaborative of dozens of businesses, foundations, individuals and nonprofits. This initiative was created in 2016 to celebrate and recognize the principals in Baltimore City Public Schools.

Baltimore's school leaders do incredible work every day on behalf of students and communities without the recognition and celebration they so clearly deserve. The Heart of the Schools is intended to show them that Baltimore appreciates their work and the incredible impact they have on its children

Our year-round program features:

  • The Heart of the School Awards, an annual event to honor ten principals selected from hundreds of community nominations.

  • The Heart of the School Fund, a grant initiative delivering funding to principals for critical school enhancements. Over three years, the Heart of the School Fund has distributed $350,000 in grants to 89 principals for projects that otherwise would not be fundable such as new technology, community gardens, field trips, school plays and more.

  • The Heart of the School Holiday Party held each December for principals to celebrate, access support and connect with their colleagues.

  • Raffles and gifts for principals throughout the year
