Any Baltimore City Public Schools principal is eligible to be a Heart of the School award candidate.

The Fund for Educational Excellence will accept nominations for the Heart of the School Awards until February 12, 2016. We hope to receive nominations from a variety of stakeholders, including students, teachers, parents, community members, and fellow principals. Nominations will be compiled into a portfolio for each principal. This portfolio will serve as a school community's application for their principal.

A group composed of Fund for Educational Excellence staff, community partners, and district staff will select finalists after reviewing all applications. Reviewers will evaluate the principal’s impact on key school stakeholder groups, in alignment with the Characteristics of a Heart of the School Principal. Reviewers will take into consideration specific exemplary programs demonstrating innovation, effectiveness, replicability and/or sustainability. They will be looking for examples to share. Finalists will be announced by February 29, 2016.

Finalists, along with other members of the school community, will be asked to attend in-person interviews in early March.

Winners will be announced, and all nominated principals will be honored, at the Heart of the School Awards on May 23, 2016 at the Hippodrome Theater.
